The appointment of Kirkland will be effective immediately according to Governor Fallin's office. Fallin stated in a press release that Kirkland will be a good fit for both counties.
'Kory Kirkland is a skilled attorney who has experience in both criminal and civil litigation and from hearing cases from the bench as a municipal judge,' Fallin said.

'Given his knowledge and experience, I know he will serve the residents of Caddo and Grady counties well.'

Kirkland has lived in Chickasha since 2009 and been in the private sector since 2011 as part of the Hays and Kirkland law firm.

Along with serving in the private sector at his law firm, Kirkland has served as a municipal judge for the cities of Chickasha and Amber and before that worked as an assistant district attorney for Grady, Caddo, Stephens and Jefferson counties.

He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma and has a juris doctorate from Oklahoma City University and is also an adjunct professor at The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha.

There is no timetable of when Kirkland will assume the bench at the Grady and Caddo County District Courts.
