Sales Tax

Sales tax data for all cities and counties in Oklahoma is published monthly by the Oklahoma Tax Commission. The sales tax figures do not reflect the month written on the report; rather, they reflect actual sales tax receipts from the second half of the month two months prior, plus estimated receipts from the first half of the month immediately prior. For example, a September report would reflect actual receipts from July 16-31 and estimated receipts from August 1-15.

The ranking is based solely on total receipts by city. It does not account for differing tax rates or populations. The year-over-year and month-over month comparisons are not adjusted for inflation.

The receipts per capita figure is calculated from the month’s receipts, divided by the most current population as reported by ESRI.

Use Tax

Use tax data is also taken from Oklahoma Tax Commission reports and reflects the same timeline as sales tax.

Note: Chickasha’s sales and use tax increased by 0.5% for a total of 4.25%, effective January 1, 2024. The increase is reflected starting in the February 2024 release. The chart showing sales tax across the past 3 years is not adjusted.

Hotel Tax

This section reports the lodging tax receipts for the given month. This data is published by the City of Chickasha. Year-over-year and month-over-month comparisons are not adjusted for inflation.

Employment

Labor force and unemployment figures are published monthly by the Oklahoma Employment Securities Commission. The Chickasha Local Labor Market (LLM) is defined as Grady, McClain, and Caddo counties. The labor force figure counts both employed and unemployed.  The state and national unemployment rates are seasonally adjusted, but the LLM rate is not.

The month-over-month change is compared to the previous month’s estimate as published in the current month’s report, which may differ from the initially published estimate for that month.

Buildings

This information is automatically generated by MyGov.US, the permit application platform used by the city. The figures used are the sums of new building permits and remodel permits issued by the city for commercial and residential purposes, respectively.

Traffic

This data is provided by Placer Labs. The “out-of-town” metrics are calculated from all foot traffic city-wide, excluding residents and employees. “Visits” counts all individual trips from all visitors, “visitors” counts only unique persons.

The “Top States” map displays the top 10 states of origin for visitors in the specified month, with darker shades representing higher traffic. Due to sample size and accuracy, fewer than 10 states may be shown.

Note: In April 2025, Placer made updates to how it measures large areas (“markets”) such as cities. While the new model is more accurate, it cannot be compared to older estimates; i.e., monthly reports published since the update are not comparable to older By the Numbers reports.
