Rock Island Weekend

The last weekend of every September, Downtown Chickasha is overrun by a triad of events. The Rock Island Arts Festival brings local artists, vendors, and performers to Chickasha Avenue all weekend long. The Rock Island Ride has routes for all skill levels, and all proceeds go to charity. And the Oklahoma Food Truck Championship draws nearly 15,000 people as dozens of food trucks from across Oklahoma and North Texas compete for $10,000 in cash.
Festival of Light & Christmastown
For over 30 years, Chickasha’s Festival of Light—a volunteer-run, non-profit organization–has been transforming Shannon Springs Park’s 43 acres into a magnificent light display during the holiday season. What started out as a small group of local citizens with a dream to spark community spirit has become a nationally-recognized Christmas light display—ranked Top 10 by USA Today two years running.
The enthusiasm that the Festival of Light creates for the citizens of Chickasha transcends the borders of Grady County, bringing in visitors each year from across the United States. Much of the success of the festival is due to hard-working volunteers. A small board of directors leads the organization, meeting and planning all 12 months of the year. Our community volunteers serve as gate greeters, display designers, lighting crews, fundraisers, photographers, traffic guides, graphic artists, entertainers, and much more.
In 2020, Chickasha added a slightly weirder holiday attraction in the Chickasha Leg Lamp. The attraction, modeled after the infamous prop in “A Christmas Story”, also pays tribute to Noland James, the late Chickasha community leader and artist who created the prop’s predecessor. Originally inflatable, the Leg Lamp was replaced with a 50-foot, permanent fiberglass structure in 2022, which towers over Chickasha Avenue as part of the downtown park.
Naturally, Chickasha celebrates Christmas in July all month long, culminating in the Christmas Cooldown Block Party the last weekend of July.
